Parent Councillor Vacancy

Parent Councillor Vacancy Letter

Parent Councillor - Nomination Form

We currently have a vacancy for a parent Councillor on the academy council of the school. The role is a chance for you as a parent to have an influence over the education the school provides for all its children. Councillors make decisions about many aspects of the school including the curriculum and staffing. Their role is vital to the education of the children so we would urge you to consider standing. There is also a vital role for parent Councillors in providing a link between the school and parents. In case you feel a bit daunted by the responsibilities, we will offer training to help you understand your role as a councillor. The parent Councillor will be expected to attend four full meetings of the school academy council each year and three committee meetings. All meetings take place between 1-3.30pm.

All people who have parental responsibility for a child at the school are eligible to stand for election as a parent councillor. However, there are certain restrictions which prevent a person from standing, please see the attached sheet for further information. If there are more nominations than vacancies, an election is held. The election will be organised by the Headteacher of the school and every parent of a pupil in the school will receive a ballot paper and will have the opportunity to vote.

If you wish to apply for the role you may nominate yourself, no proposer or seconder is required, but you must ensure the completed nomination form is returned to school by 12 noon on Monday 22nd November 2021. Please also provide a short personal statement with your nomination. If a ballot is needed, this statement will be copied and sent to the other parents at the school.

In the personal statement, candidates may wish to briefly set out:

  • evidence of their skills and experience;
  • your commitment to undertake training to acquire or develop the skills to be an effective councillor;
  • how you plan to contribute to the future work of the academy council.

If you would like to nominate yourself as a parent councillor, you need to:

  1. a) check that you are eligible by reading the enclosed document on eligibility;
  2. b) complete the nomination form enclosed, and return it to Mr I Armstrong at the School;
  3. c) include a statement about yourself and why you would like to become a councillor;
  4. d) ensure your nomination is received at the school by 12 noon on Monday

           22nd November 2021.

You are responsible for ensuring that your nomination form is received by the deadline. It may be delivered by hand, sent to school with your child, or sent by first class post, and should be sealed in an envelope marked ‘Nomination for parent Councillor’.  A sealed ballot box will be available in the school for hand deliveries, details of the location will be found on a notice in the entrance to the school.

If you have any questions about parental elections, nominations or appointments, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Mr I Armstrong
